Lituania y las empresas extranjeras podrán solicitar el apoyo financiero de la Unión Europea para proyectos de inversión destinados a la construcción o reconstrucción de las zonas industriales y la introducción de nuevas instalaciones de producción, dijo el Ministerio de Economía.

Additional EUR4.7m to Support Direct Investment

Lithuanian and foreign businesses will be able to apply for financial support from the European Union for investment projects aimed at building or reconstruction of industrial sites and introduction of new production facilities, the Ministry of Economy said. Initially, the Invest LT-2 programme is expected to distribute EUR4.7m in financial support but the amount might be increased considering the demand for funding.

The new programme covers both Lithuanian and foreign investors, contrary to previous financial instruments aimed solely at foreign businesses. On the other hand, the programme covers both existing companies and start-ups.

To be applicable for the Invest LT-2 funds, the investment project must be implemented outside five largest Lithuanian cities. The company is expected to contribute at least EUR870,000 to the project while the EU support will be limited to the maximum of 50 percent of the total value.

Investment in the poorest regions will be particularly encouraged. According to the main principles, the EU support is to be granted only for projects which create at least 25 new jobs. On the other hand, the added value brought by the project will be a one more important aspect.

Several business sectors are excluded from the Invest LT-2 programme, such as agriculture, production of alcohol and synthetic fibres, shipbuilding, legal services, retail and wholesale trade.
