La economía de Lituania creció un 7,2 por ciento en el tercer trimestre del año 2011, en comparación con el período correspondiente en 2010, dijo Eurostat, la oficina de las estadísticas de la Unión Europea. Entre los 27 países miembros de la UE, Lituania ocupa el segundo lugar despues de Estonia, que registró un aumento del 7,9 por ciento en su producto interno bruto durante el período.

The Lithuanian economy expanded by 7.2 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the respective period in 2010, the European Union’s statistics office Eurostat said. Among the 27 member of the EU, Lithuania is second only to Estonia which posted a 7.9 percent increase in its gross domestic product over the period.

In Latvia, the overall value of goods and services produced inside the country increased by 5.3 percent compared to the respective result in 2010.

Greece posted the by far largest fall as the country’s GDP shrank by 5.2 percent in the third quarter. Portugal and Cyprus also reported negative GDP changes, of 1.7 and 0.6 percent respectively.

The overall economic growth in 27 countries inside the EU stood at 1.4 percent in the third quarter of the year, just like in 17 members of the euro zone. Compared to the second quarter of 2011, the growth was 0.2 percent both for the EU-27 and the euro zone.
