January 04, 2013, Vilnius.lt

FDI Magazine, a division of The Financial Times, has analyzed foreign direct investments across the world and ranked Vilnius as one of the best performing regions, having gained markedly more investments than last year.

With a 100% increase in FDI, Vilnius has taken 4th place in the rating and performed better than Seoul, Michigan, Central Thailand, Santiago metro region, Alabama, and other regions.

“It is an important evaluation for the city. I am full of thanks to our foreign investors like IKEA, Kempinski, Choice Hotels, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, who discovered Vilnius and made their investments here. The cooperation that we pursued together with them to achieve such results is worth mentioning as well. I also highly appreciate the work of local businesses that have proven capable of attracting foreign partners,” said the Mayor of Vilnius, Arturas Zuokas.

The top ratings went to Kerala (South India), Minnesota (USA), and Queretaro (Mexico). The FDI Magazine stresses that "despite a global decrease in FDI in 2012, there were certain hot-spots across the world that showed impressive growth. Among states or regions, Minnesota in the US (with a nearly 130% increase), Mexico’s Querétaro (with a 120% gain) and Lithuania’s Vilnius County (with a 100% increase) had reason to cheer.”
